I kicked off this project with the idea that we, as women, go through many different stages in our lives. I wanted to celebrate women at all stages and ensure that they also existed in photographs for themselves and their families.
Heather is in her 50s and is someone who has always puts other people's needs before her own. Heather has always avoided photos of herself because she always thought she didn't look good enough to be in them. I'm so glad she took the challenge and applied for the Woman's World Project, so we could show her just how beautiful she is inside and out.
Heather has been a nurse for 25 years and is a mother of 2 daughters and step-mother to 6 more. She has dedicated her life to raising her children and to her nursing career. Now her family have grown up and have families of their own (she has 8 grand children), it is finally time to do something for herself!!
Although she is no longer a full time nurse, she continues to work, helping to improve our local health services. When asked, Heather mentioned that her favourite thing about herself was that she is approachable and always willing to help, which I'm sure made her an amazing, compassionate nurse and mother for all those years. She continues to be busy with work, her kids, and her grandkids.
Although Heather has dedicated her life to nursing, she has a love of travel and has been fortunate enough to travel quite a lot with her children. Originally from Canada, she moved to Australia when she was 25. She has spent time living in Hawaii and travelling throughout the world and it was fantastic to hear about some of her adventures.
It was such a pleasure to be able to create some beautiful images for Heather to call her own. We had a lovely day and I wish her all the best going forward.
